Amal's story
My name is Amal. I was very happy and was enjoying my life as I had very devoted friends around me. I was 22 and a handsome young man. Then, one day, I got TB. I had fever and could not stop coughing. It was not easy. I was loosing my weight and often had no appetite. Seeing my sickness some of my friends left me or some come to see me very seldom.
At the beginning I was terrified as I knew little about the disease but had a very negative image of TB as I thought it was the disease of the poor. Now I know that anyone can get TB and that it knows no boundaries.
I had to swallow a handful of pills and had terrible side effects. I lost my appetite and vomitting.
Thanks to Allah, I managed to get through my 8 months of treatment and complete it successfully.
At present, I am healthy and I want to help TB patients accessing proper treatment and motivating them to beat the disease. Some former TB patients, including myself, have come together and formed a patient organization, named “Towards TB Free World” public union.
People who have not experienced TB could hardly imagine how terrible it is, BUT WE KNOW!
TB is curable and easily treatable disease. Today we want zero TB death!
Not TB, But WE must be a nightmare for TB!!!
